Training & Education

Our highly trained team of mental health counsellors offer a variety of treatment options to support your individual needs. All of our counsellors hold a minimum of a Masters degree in their field of study. We all believe in the importance of continuing education and continue to expand our service offerings by obtaining training and certification in many evidence based treatment models.

All of our counsellors have advanced training in trauma therapy treatment approaches including Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing, an evidence-based, best practice for the treatment of PTSD. Learn more about our treatment approaches and how they may help you.

Choosing A Therapist

Choosing the right therapist to work with can be overwhelming. However, research shows that the quality of the therapeutic relationship has a significant impact on successful outcomes in treatment. Not only do you want to choose a therapist who is trained and experienced, you also want to choose someone that you feel comfortable and emotionally safe in their presence.

Each of our therapists offers a unique perspective and experience. We encourage you to read our biographies and get a sense of our personality, interests and experiences. We even wrote a blog post about The Five Things To Consider When Choosing A Therapist! If you still aren’t sure who to pick, please contact us and we can make a recommendation. We can also offer referrals to other therapists or clinics if we think there is someone else out there who can better meet your needs.

With these tips in mind, we’ve like to introduce you to our amazing Rising Tides therapists.

I believe that each person and each family is unique; coming from a variety of life experiences that have shaped who they are as individuals and as a system. I am able to draw from many therapeutic approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Observed Experiential Therapy (OEI), Lifespan Integration (LI), Expressive therapies, Family of origin work, Relaxation and Mindfulness, Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), and Behavior Therapy, to build a plan that will best suit your needs. My focus is on family wellness, considering all domains including physical, mental, biological, emotional and spiritual health.

Anna McCully

Counselling Associate

My own struggles with eating, body image and the impacts of sexism and gender-based violence, led me to this profession and using a body-mind approach. I love this work and believe in the power of equitable relationships, non-judgment, and genuine care. You can expect that I will be respectful of your experience, knowledge and values, and a trustworthy person with whom to share. I am deeply invested in continued learning, including EMDR, so you can have the best support possible.

Natasha-Bass Bokkers

Counselling Associate

With over 20 years experience working as a therapist in the field of addictions and mental health, I continue to be amazed at the human ability to survive, overcome and master adversity.  I work from a non-judgmental stance and use reflective listening skills to evoke from within people the answers they are searching for.  I provide guidance on this journey while also teaching new ways of coping with life’s challenges.   I have had the opportunity to train in a variety of modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Brief Solution-Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Narrative Therapy and have advanced training in Trauma Informed Treatment.   I am also a certified practitioner of NADA auricular acupuncture which can be used on its own to treat a variety of symptoms and promote overall wellness, or as an adjunct to the therapeutic process.   I welcome the opportunity to work with individuals to create a plan that will help you to achieve your therapeutic goals.

Stacey Hill

Counselling Associate

As a registered Social Worker, with over a decade of clinical social work practice, I strive to deliver compassionate and empathetic support to assist clients in finding their inner strengths and abilities. I have worked extensively in both private practice and public settings with adults, couples, and adolescents addressing a broad range of issues including anxiety, depression, chronic pain, low self esteem, body image, grief and loss, relationship issues, personal illness, trauma, and issues regarding sexuality or sexual identity. I have more than a decade of clinical experience providing talk therapy in a variety of populations, using several modalities. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Mindfulness, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy are among the approaches drawn upon in session. Rapport is one of the biggest indicators of counselling success and it is of the upmost priority. As a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, I have a diverse set of life experience that informs my perspective as a therapist. I believe that individuals are the experts in their own lives and therefore my role is to collaborate during the therapeutic experience.

Kendra Higgs (Currently on Leave until February 2022)

Counselling Associate

I bring a deep curiosity about the human experience, relationships and behaviour to my practice. It’s a privilege for me to sit with my clients in the confusing and painful parts of life. I’ve worked with individuals, couples and families presenting a wide range of concerns, and have specific training and experience in marriage and family therapy, family of origin work, emotional wellness and self-compassion.

Nancy Savoie (Booking for August 18th and on)

Counselling Associate

I am a registered social worker who holds a Master’s degree in social work. I have been a clinician for over five years, working mainly with adolescents and young adults struggling with everything from living within the criminal justice system and trying to navigate substance use to being anxious and trying to find cures to all mental health struggles through the world of Tik Toks.  Learned experience and a disarming charm is how I would describe my therapeutic approach. Using a delicate balance of humor, personal experience, education, patience and empathy I attempt to approach all alliances with clients with an open and hopeful mind.

Natalie Cormier

Student Counsellor (Starting September 2021)

Hi, my name is Natalie and I worked as a Registered Nurse for 7 years, having worked in the New-Brunswick Heart Center in Saint John, ICU, Rural Indigenous community ER, COVID unit, travel nursing and public health. I am also a certified Holy Fire Reiki practitioner and have been practicing it for over five years. I decided to transition into psychotherapy as I found that I loved the patient and family support side of nursing, and I have always been intrigued with the connection from mental health and physical health. I am particularly interested in grief and palliative counseling, and I am currently completing certifications in Somatic Experiencing and Heart Centered Hypnotherapy.

On the personal level, I am very athletic and love sports. I have played hockey and soccer most of my life, and eventually went to compete in sprint cycling where I finished second in Canada. Now, I enjoy trail running, hiking and cycling. I also spend a lot of time reading and in nature.
