Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a type of psychotherapy that is used to treat the negative emotions and beliefs that are associated with memory of trauma. It involves having the therapist use a hand motion to invite the client’s focus on a particular pattern while they simultaneously recall the traumatic event. Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of psychotherapy that assumes the presence of multiple sub-personalities that take on various roles in our system. These sub-personalities exist around the self and IFS allows for healing to occur when our parts are understood through a more compassionate lens. Can Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Be Used to Treat Trauma?
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy has long been regarded as a best practice for treating a number of conditions, such as anxiety and depression, and can also be used to treat trauma.
